CFC Cause of the Week: Veterans

This week, we honor the men and women who have served and protected our country. With bravery and sacrifice, our veterans answered the call of duty. Now we have the opportunity to repay their commitment to us by pledging support through the CFC. When veterans return from active duty, the transition to civilian life can be difficult. Translating military experience to the civilian workforce presents challenges, while physical and mental trauma experienced during their service impacts their daily lives. On a single night in January 2017, roughly 40,000 Veterans were homeless, unsheltered or on the street. Thankfully, CFC charities provide veterans and their families with critical services ranging from housing and medical care, to counseling and professional development.

Here’s how you can make an impact:

  • $50 secures jobs for four veterans.
  • $200 covers interviewing a veteran as part of a mission to research and share information on past conflicts.
  • $300 pays for a service member to attend career opportunity day, helping them integrate into the private sector.

My cause is veterans. I am a veteran, and I come from a family of service members dating back to the Korean War, so I have a personal responsibility to help my fellow comrades through personal service and donating to organizations that support our service members through the CFC. When I was first discharged from the United States Army, entering the workforce proved to be a lot more challenging than I had anticipated. I realized quickly that I was not alone and many veterans had difficulties in trying to find jobs as a civilian. Every year, I find multiple veterans’ nonprofit organizations that I am able to donate to through the CFC. Each of these organizations will use the funding they receive to assist my fellow comrades in finding their next career in the civilian workforce.
